Interactive Photography: Panoramic photography

There are many types of interactive photography being used today.  Businesses and hobbyists alike use this technology to enhance their pictures and final products.  It is used for various markets and can take the form of many interactive formats.  The purpose of interactive photography is to enhance the visual experience of looking at pictures and to convey more information than a typical snapshot can provide.  One product of this particular type of photography is panoramic photography.

Panoramic photography is a type of interactive photography that allows a much broader view of a space or subject area.  A normal camera snapshot will only capture so much of a particular space and cannot convey much information about an area as a whole.  Using panoramic photography can enhance a viewers experience and provide more of a viewing area.  This particular type of interactive photography uses a number of smaller pictures taken through a special lens to create one large picture.  Using special software the picture can be expanded up or down, left or right, depending on the intent of the picture taker.  It is even possible to create a complete 360 degree view of an area or subject of choice.

Imagine you are in the market to purchase a home.  You have no time to travel to every place that interests you and would like to see each home in as much detail as possible.  Interactive photography provides you with a solution to this problem.  A digital panorama of each room in a house would allow you to explore the home and get an idea of whether it contains the key elements you are looking for.  Upon inspection you may decide to take time to visit the home or simply scratch it off your list of possibilities.  In this instance interactive photography has saved you time and money.

Panoramic photography is obviously useful for looking around things but it can also be helpful when looking at something.  For instance, if you were looking for a new car, interactive photography could be helpful there as well.  Multiple photos of the car’s exterior placed together can create a 360 degree view of the vehicle that you could not achieve unless you were in the presence of the car.  Again, you have saved time and money by being able to inspect the vehicle without actually traveling to see it.

Panoramic photography can also bring remote places to people who would otherwise not get a chance to see them.  Far away locations and sites of scientific interest recorded with interactive photography can provide a visual record useful for many different things.  It can be used for marketing purposes, advertisements and general information.  When applied to a specific application panoramic photography can be used to its fullest to supply visual and sometimes measurable information about its subject.  The benefits and uses of panoramic interactive photography in any arena are endless and highly adaptable.
