Interactive Photography: About
There are many different types of photography to engage in. Both professionals and hobbyists prefer wide ranges of styles and subject matters. There are photographers who focus on portraits, some who focus on landscapes and others who attempt to capture emotion though photography no matter what the subject may be. One type of photography being practiced today is interactive photography. This type of photography is used by many people to enhance the experience of viewing pictures whether for visual enjoyment or informational reasons. Interactive photography is also prevalent in the professional photography world as a way to give customers more information about products and places.
One type of interactive photography can be seen in the real estate markets. Software allows the picture taker to take photographs of a room using a special lens and then combine the pictures to create a 360 degree view of the space. People looking at the photo can pan and zoom around to get a more realistic view of a space than what would be allowed to them with a regular photo. Interactive photography is also used to create virtual tours of spaces. Using the same type of techniques as a 360 degree view picture, the picture taker can create a walking type tour of a space using only photographs. This means someone can take a tour of a space and see 360 degrees in all directions of the tour, just as if they were at the actual location.
Interactive photography is also useful in informational arenas. It can be used to display maps. Being able to pan and zoom around a large area is much more convenient for a person looking for location information than looking at one photograph at a time. This type of interactive photography allows for display of physical locations with information about the particular location. For example a map that shows locations of gas stations and can supply the address with a click of the mouse.
Interactive photography is also the art of getting the photographer more involved in the picture taking process. Guided tours that explore locations specifically for their photographic qualities engage the picture taker and make the experience more interactive for them. This means that interactive photography can take place on either side of the camera, with the photographer or with the person seeing the finished product.
There are many uses for interactive photography. This type of technology and technique can be customized to fit many areas of interest or needs. It can be combined with media to create final products with movement or even more visual interest than a quick snapshot. It can be used to convey ideas or information in a more interesting way than ever available before. Regardless of the application or final intent interactive photography is a very interesting branch of photography and should be explored by anyone with an avid interest in digital photo media.
